Madonna’s Celebration Tour final concert in Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro
Following their first, celebrated collaboration for Madame X Tour in 2019-2020, Damien Jalet served as a creative advisor for Madonna’s Celebration Tour – a celebration spanning four decades of her legendary music all over the globe, and following the release of her remix album Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones. Damien Jalet choreographed the show together with French contemporary dance choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and La Horde, among others.
The tour, started in October 2023 in London, ended after six months and over eighty shows later on Rio de Janeiro’s mythical Copacabana Beach on May 4th, with the gift of a free concert to thank fans from all around the world.
1,6 million people shared the most ecstatic experience, making history, making together Madonna’s biggest ever show – and setting a record for the largest audience ever for a female artist’s stand-alone concert – and dance.
The Celebration Tour was a show-tribute Madonna dedicated especially to her many queer inspirations, and friends lost to HIV-AIDS. In Rio, it was also a celebration of Brazil’s diversity, featuring Brazilian singers, musicians, dancers – among them drag queen Pabllo Vittar, made an icon of Brazil’s possible utopia.
